The time has finally come, football season is officially here. The Chargers line up against the Chiefs this Sunday at 1:05 PM PT, at StubHub Stadium.

The Chargers had a good off-season, but injuries have plagued camp for the Chargers. They lost star tight end, Hunter Henry tore his ACL in May. Former Pro-Bowler Jason Verrett was also lost for the year with an ACL tear. Newly signed Free Agent Jaylen Watkins also tore his ACL. Even with all of that, Tom Telesco has done a fantastic job at building depth for the Chargers. I think that they will be fine, Gates is back for the TE position, the Chargers still had a Top 3 Pass Defense without Verrett and Watkins last year and they have the addition of Derwin James. The Chargers are 0-8 against the Chiefs in the last few seasons, but the landscape of the AFC West has changed drastically. The Chiefs defense was terrible last year, and then they traded Marcus Peters to the Rams. While the Chiefs offense is talented, they have a unproven QB with Patrick Mahomes. Meanwhile, the Chargers killed the draft and free agency and have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL with a proven future HOF QB. I see a shift in the AFC West this year, one where the Chargers take their rightful place back on top and secure their first playoff spot since 2013.

My prediction: Chargers 27 Chiefs 14- Mahomes strikes first to Kelce, but defense struggles and Rivers throws 2 TDs, one to Gates and Allen. Melvin Gordon gets 100 on the ground and 1 rushing TD.
