The Los Angeles Kings season is not going well. In fact it’s a season that, as of right now, no one saw coming. Most of last season’s group is back and the addition of prolific goal scorer Ilya Kovalchuk should have this team in a better position. Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty are holding their own but could be better in all three zones. Jonathan Quick was average at the start of the year before he got injured, and now his backup, Jack Campbell, is also hurt.
Line changes have not worked so far and Coach Desjardins said he will switch up the Power Play to get more scoring out of his team. The team needs a boost to jumpstart this team as a whole, the Kings are too talented to be in this position. There is plenty of season left but at this point the Kings would be out of the playoffs
The Kings need to make changes if they have any chance of making the playoffs because this team is no way going to contend with the way they are playing. The defense could use another solid defensemen who is defense first but can jump in the play and supply some offense. The Kings have also been one of the teams rumored in the mix for William Nylander, which could give the offense a much needed boost. If no moves are made and the season continues to be dismal then the team could look different next year. The problem with adding someone is the cap, which they are right up against so they need to dup salary to make a move. Should the team rebuild and move a key, core piece or should the team retool and add a Nylander while still being competitive?
