As many of the listeners of the Fire Away Fantasy Football Podcast know, I hate Mike McCoy, because he is a terrible coach and he ruined several years of the Chargers. He was the OC in Arizona for the first 7 weeks of the season and then he was fired. That was one of the main reasons why I was worried about this matchup going in. The Chargers had to dominate the month of November and so far they have, minus the late collapse to the Broncos last week. I was most worried about David Johnson and how our run-stoppers have been hampered by injuries. However, the Chargers put all of my fears to rest.

The offense got started kinda slow, the last few weeks of Chargers games have kind of followed a similar script. The opposing teams get out to a early lead and the Chargers offense starts clicking in the 2nd and 3rd quarter and the defense just shuts everything down. Cardinals got out to a 10-0 lead and all my fears were coming to the front of my mind, but then the Chargers decided to stop messing around and went and scored 45 unanswered points on the Cardinals defense. Mike Williams had a monster day with 2 TD grabs, and Austin Ekeler had a 10 catch day. There was a rather annoying play call in the 3rd quarter where some sore of end-around trick play was called and it caused Melvin Gordon to get hurt on the play. He has a Grade 2 MCL sprain and he will be out at least a few weeks. The play frustrated me because the Chargers were already up 28-10 after half, so the trick play didn’t seem necessary and it caused the Chargers to lose their star RB before they run into the Gauntlet in December. Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson played significant roles in the game and both performed very well, I think that we will be alright in the short-term, but Melvin has to be back and 100% for the playoffs. Phillip Rivers broke records on Sunday, breaking the single-game completions streak with 25 in a row, he also finished with a 96% completion rating which was also an NFL record. He finished the day going 28-29 with 259 yards and 3 TDs to add to his MVP season so far.

The defense started off very shaky, as they let Josh Rosen drive down and get an early 10-0 lead. Gus Bradley made some adjustments and the Cardinals offense totaled 41 yards the rest of the game. Joey Bosa had a 2 sack game, which was amazing to see and the AFC should be very scared now that he’s back. Derwin James continues to make a strong case for DROY with another interception and he led the team in tackles which is becoming a common thing for him.

The “Money Badger” Micheal Badgley went 5/5 on Extra Points and went 1/1 on Field Goals, he continues to be an anchor for this Chargers special teams that has been very unstable this season. Just a shoutout to Desmond King, who has really been a solid returner for the Chargers this season. He hasn’t broken one free yet but, I’m sure he’s close.

The Chargers play in their first National Televised game on Sunday night football, which is astonishing considering the Chargers are 8-3, but it just shows how little the NFL cares about the Chargers. They will travel to Pittsburg for a heavily discussed matchup against the Steelers, who are coming off of a loss to the Broncos last week. Chargers Nation needs to show up and support the Chargers on Sunday night.
