The Angels announced the 21 non-roster invitees to Spring Training and it includes 6 pitchers, 1 two-way player, 5 catchers, 3 infielders, and 6 outfielders.
The pitchers that have been invited include
RHP Miguel Almonte- Almonte, pitched 7 innings for the Angels in 2018 and was DFA’d when the Angels signed RHP Cody Allen.
RHP Griffin Canning- The Angels 2nd round pick in 2017 and according to MLB Pipeline is the 72nd best prospect in Baseball. Canning is also ranked the 2nd best prospect in the Angels organization.
RHP Alex Meyer- Meyer, pitched for the Angels in 2016 and 2017 and has been out since having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder in September of 2017.
Less notable names that have been invited are RHP Matt Ramsey, RHP Jeremy Rhoades, and RHP Forrest Snow.
Two Way Player
LHP Jared Walsh- Walsh, will be brought in as a two way player and hits and pitches left handed. Walsh pitched only 5.2 innings last season while only giving up 1 earned run across three minor league levels. He, also played in 130 games while playing 1B and the OF and slashed .277/.359/.536 across three levels in the minor leagues. Walsh hit 34 doubles, 1 triple, 29 home runs with 99 RBI.
Catchers
The most notable catcher that has been invited is
Dustin Garneau- Garneau, who has played in 4 seasons with minimal playing time in the big leagues with the Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, and Chicago White Sox. The other catchers that have been invited are Jack Kruger, Julian Leon, Keinner Pina, and Roberto Pena
Infielders
Jahmai Jones- Ranked as the 4th best prospect in the Angels organization and was moved to 2B from the outfield last season.
Matt Thaiss- 1B who was the Angels first round pick in 2016 and is ranked as the 5th best prospect in the Angels farm system.
Wilfredo Tovar- A shortstop with minimal experience in the big leagues with a total of 9 games with the New York Mets from 2013-2014.
Outifelders
Jo Adell- He was the Angels first pick in the 2017 draft and is ranked as the 15th best prospect in Baseball according to MLB Pipeline. Adell, is also the Angels number one prospect.
Peter Bourjos- Played for the Angels from 2010-2013, and still rates as a good defensive outfielder but poorly with the bat.
Brandon Marsh- Ranked as the Angels 3rd best prospect.
Jarrett Parker- Played for the San Francisco Giants from 2015-2017 and showed some power in the small amount of time he was on the field.
Cesar Puello- Played in 1 game for the Angels in 2017 and made his big league debut on August 9th of that year and went 1 for 4 while also stealing 2 bases and driving in a run. He would get claimed by the Tampa Bay Rays a few days later and played in a handful of games for them.
Brennon Lund, has also been invited to Spring Training.
