Jake Muzzin will not win a Norris trophy but he will beone of the hardest working players on your team. The Los Angeles Kings traded Muzzin to the Toronto Maple Leafs for D Sean Durzi, RW Carl Geundstrom and a 2019 1st round pick.
As a 2007 5th round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins Muzzin proved he belonged in the NHL after he signed with the Kings in 2010. He quickly became the teams second best defensemen behind Drew Doughty, playing a hard nosed, gritty defensive game. His offense came later but his defensive game was always there, providing big hits and blocking shots.
He won a Stanley Cup with the Kings in 2014 and has 21 points (4 goals and 17 assists) in 50 games this season. Durzi has 28 points in 24 games with Guelph and Owen Sound of the OHL, while Grundstrom has 29 points in 42 games with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
The Kings will with out a doubt miss Muzzin, who really gave his all for the organization. He wasn’t flashy and was not going to make highlight reel plays but he provided that grit and nastiness that the Kings needed on defense. This is going to be a tough loss for the team and the fans to get through but this is what happens when the team struggles and a rebuild is in order.
As Kings fans we can wait and see if the return was worth it and give these kids a chance. Thank you Jake Muzzin for your contributions as you will be missed. Best of Luck in Toronto, and welcome to Los Angeles Carl Grundstrom and Sean Durzi.
