The Los Angeles Lakers are set with the 4th pick in the upcoming NBA draft. Lakers GM Rob Pelinka stated that the organization will look at all options with their draft pick.

One option is to draft the 4th best player in the draft and add him to the Lakers roster for next season. The other option is to shop the pick in a trade in order to win next season.

The Lakers should shop the 4th pick in the draft in a trade for a shooter or a big that can stretch the floor. Those were 2 weaknesses that the Lakers had last season. Rumors involving all-star guard Bradley Beal continued throughout the season and now might be the perfect time to execute that trade. The Washington Wizards were a disaster last year as John Wall missed the majority of the season with an Achilles injury. Beal needs an opportunity to showcase his talents on a bigger market and a bigger stage. The Lakers fit him perfectly and if they can pull this trade-off, it will help the Lakers in the short term.

LeBron James is entering his 17th year in the league and will be 35 in December this year. James needs experienced players in order to win and contend for a championship. Another rookie will only keep the Lakers in the same position that they are in now.

The 4th pick isn’t as valuable as the first 3 picks are due to many people believing that this is a 3 player draft. However, the Lakers have to improve the roster to win next year, not 3-4 years from now.
