NHL.com is reporting that the Los Angeles Kings have signed 2018 6th round pick (165th overall) Johan Sodergran to a 3 year, entry-level contract. Sodergran, however, has one year left on his contract with Linkoping.
The 6-3, 205 lb winger from Stockholm, Sweden does not have hall of fame stats. He does, however, have two things the Kings need and that is a ton of speed and an NHL caliber shot. Odergran has the potential to be a top 4 winger and can play either left or right wing.
During the 2018-19 season, he played for four teams, including the World Junior Championship under 20 team and the International Junior Team. In 58 games this past season he tallied 10 goals and 7 assists for 17 points and 12 penalty minutes. He scored a career-high 33 points with 17 goals and 16 assists in 37 games during the 2017-18 season with Linkoping HC J20 team.
Sodergran will be attending the Los Angeles Kings developmental camp this offseason. We should know how he is progressing and what he needs to work on during his time there. He may not be with the big club for some time but he is a very promising prospect. He has what it takes to be a solid NHL’er but time will tell as to how he exactly fits into this system. This will be a big offseason for his development and he is sure to make the most of this opportunity.
When do you think he will be wearing a Kings sweater? Where do you think he belongs in the lineup? The Kings have signed some potential everyday players this offseason and the future looks bright for these kids.
The time is now for the future of the Kings.
