The latest news on Kawhi Leonard is that the Clippers and the Raptors are the front runners that he would choose to play for in the upcoming free agency frenzy.
There’s a chance Kawhi resigns with the Raptors to be able to sign a more lucrative contract the next year since he did just win a championship with that franchise.
The other option that we all would enjoy more is that Kawhi decides to come home to the west coast and join the Clippers who have been able to turn around the franchise and become a hopeful destination spot for talented players and now they need one more thing: a championship. If the Clips could lure Kawhi away from the Raptors that would be substantial even if he is the only superstar they get, he could elevate the already good Clippers team and make them a big-time playoff contender. Now that’s if the Clippers are only able to get Kawhi Leonard and not another superstar.
If they are able to move Danilo Gallinari the Clips would be able to look for another top tier player to give that second max contract too. Whether it’s a point guard if we see Patrick Beverly leave for another team, or a solid big man either would be needed to pair with Kawhi.
This time of year is fun and exciting for a team in our position, what happens this offseason could set the franchise up for success for years to come.
