Remember when Anthony Davis stated that he wanted to be the Defensive Player of the year? He also stated that he wanted to hold teams under 100 points per game.
Through 6 games this season, the Lakers are doing exactly what Anthony Davis had hoped. He is the center of the Lakers defense this year and has gotten everyone to play defense at a high level.
Anthony Davis has been nothing short of dominant this season averaging 28.5 ppg 11.5 RPG, 3 BPG, and 1 SPG, per nba.com.
The Lakers are atop in the Western Conference with a good win against the Spurs. The Lakers’ defense is the best defense in the NBA with a 96.3 net rating, per nba.com. The Lakers have held 3 of the 5 opponents under 100 points.
Defense is how you win a lot of games in the regular season because defense always travels. It doesn’t matter where you play because the defense is about energy and effort along with the scheme. Teams cannot drive to the paint consistently with Anthony Davis and McGee along with Howard in the paint.
If this Lakers defense continues the way they have started this season, Anthony Davis will be the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year.
