The Lakers are 7-2 through 9 games and are tied for the best record in the western conference. The Lakers have the second-best defense in the NBA with a 98.1 defensive rating, per nba.com.
The Lakers” defense has been dominant through 9 games. They have held 4 teams under 100 points. The defense has been better than expected but can it last for the duration of the season and the playoffs are in question.
LeBron James is playing some of the best defense since his days at Miami. LeBron will turn 35 in December and is in his 17th season. It’s going to be difficult for LeBron James to play primary point guard and play high-level defense throughout the season and in the playoffs. James will have less responsibility once Rajon Rondo returns from his calf injury. Rondo can orchestrate the offense with the bench and some starters when he’s on the floor.
The best part of the Lakers’ defense is the rim protection. The Lakers have the best trio of bigs in the NBA with Anthony Davis, JaVale Mcgee, and Dwight Howard. There is no question that any team in the league will have trouble scoring in the paint with these bigs in the lineup. Size and rebounding is a huge key when you get to the playoffs.
The Lakers’ defense will be great and in the top 7 in the NBA by the end of the season. The Lakers offense will continue to get better which will allow them to play ahead more.
