The Los Angeles Lakers are off to a fast start with the best record in the NBA at 14-2. The players have done a great job of performing at a high level every night.
The coaching has been superb so far with Frank Vogel and assistant coach Jason Kidd. Coaching is a huge component of winning games in the regular season. The adjustments that coach Vogel has made throughout the first portion of the season is incredible.
The Lakers are off to a hot start but if you want to see if they are an NBA consensus pick each night you need to check out BetQL.
The Lakers have won 3 straight close games against the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Memphis Grizzlies. All these games could have been losses for the Lakers but Frank Vogel made certain adjustments to help the Lakers win all 3 games. Frank Vogel has encouraged Anthony Davis to shoot more 3s to spread the defense. Anthony Davis has made 10 3s in the last 3 games. One of those 3s was clutch in the 4th quarter against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers also made a season-high 17 3s in the second game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Jason Kidd’s presence has been on display so far this season. You can see how his wisdom is rubbing off on LeBron James as the primary point guard. Kidd stated after the first game against the Thunder that he didn’t like how LeBron played because of his 7 turnovers. James took the criticism very well and tried to cut down on his turnovers especially in the 4th quarter.
Vogel and Kidd seem to have the same mindset on defense as the Lakers were able to get key stops in the 4th quarter against the Grizzlies and the Thunder. It’s important for the Lakers to be in close games early in the season so when the moment arrives in the future, they know exactly what to do.
Frank Vogel is definitely in the conversation for Coach of the Year. The Lakers need to continue to win games and Vogel needs to continue to make in-game adjustments that translate to wins.
