We are finally in 2020, happy new year everybody! Is this finally the year where the Lakers win their 17th NBA title and tie the Celtics for the franchise with the most titles?
Laker Nation believes it could be, and for that to happen, here are some things that the Lakers hope can go their way to win that championship.
The Three-Pointers to Fall
The Lakers tried 45 threes against the Clippers, the most since 2008, but only managed to make 12 of them. This gives the team a 26.7 field goal percentage from three points for the game. That’s not nearly good enough. Also, overall for the season, the team has shot 35.2% from three, which its ranked 18th in the NBA. If they want to win a championship, it would help a lot if they could step up their three-point game.
An Injury-Free Playoff-Run
In a year where the race for the NBA championship is wide open, every little thing counts as the difference. An injury can be the reason why you went out in the first found of the playoffs or why you won the title. The Lakers can´t afford an injury, especially to their two superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Their Role Players to Step Up
One important aspect of a championship team is their supporting cast. The Lakers have great names everywhere, but sometimes these players have not stepped up in important situations. One example is against the Clippers, where the bench completely disappeared. Another example has been the lack of a consistent third scorer, something the team expects Kyle Kuzma to be.
If these three aspects happen to go the Lakers way, the team will have a very good chance to bring back the title to Los Angeles.
