The Lakers’ two stars have emerged as the best dynamic duo in the NBA with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. There has been one problem with the Lakers and it has been the inconsistent play of the bench.
The Lakers bench is led by Kyle Kuzma and speculation has started on whether Kuzma should be traded.
Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that the Lakers are listening to offers for Kyle Kuzma. Kyle Kuzma’s numbers are decent, averaging 11.8 ppg, 34.6% from 3 in 23.5 mpg. He has been injured with a foot injury early in the season and a sprained ankle. Kuzma’s defense has been much better the past few games. The bench role for him is new compared to last year. He is still trying to find his rhythm in the offense.
The real question is: what do the Lakers need to win the championship this season?
The Lakers need another guard that can make plays when LeBron is off the floor. Rondo has not been great in this role and he’s older and slower on defense. The Lakers need a younger playmaking guard but trading Kuzma doesn’t make sense. The Lakers have Rondo, Caruso, KCP, Green, and Bradley as their guards.
Down the stretch, the rotations will get to 8 deep instead of 10 or 11 as they get ready for playoffs. Kuzma should be apart of the Lakers’ future moving forward and he is the perfect player to have in a playoff series because he has no fear.
What the Lakers need to do is keep Kyle Kuzma and try to get another guard at the deadline or in the buyout market.
