The Angels have announced 19 players have been invited to Spring Training.
The players include 8 Pitchers, 5 Catchers, 3 Infielders, and 3 Outfielders.
Starting Pitchers
RHP Matt Ball
Ball is a 25-year-old right-handed pitcher, who has both started and pitched out in relief. He had a solid year in Double-A as a Starter and struggled in Triple-A as a starter and out of the Bullpen.
RHP Adrian De Horta
De Horta, approaching his 25th birthday is similar to Matt Ball as he has started and pitched in relief. He pitched in Rookie Ball, Double-A, and Triple-A last season. He pitched very well in Rookie Ball and in Double-A, but the long ball and walks hurt him in Triple-A.
LHP Luiz Gohara
Gohara is a 23-year-old former top prospect with the Atlanta Braves. He made his Major League debut in 2017′ making 5 starts then appeared in 9 games including 1 start with the Braves in 2018. He has had a shoulder issue the past few years and was eventually released by the Braves. He’s pitched a combined 49 innings in the big leagues to a 5.33 ERA.
RHP Jake Thompson
Thompson is 26 years old and was a big prospect for the Philadelphia Phillies when they acquired him in the Cole Hamels trade with the Texas Rangers back in 2015. He appeared in 3 seasons in the big leagues with the Phillies and pitched in 30 games with 18 of those games being starts. He holds a 4.87 ERA in 116.1 innings and has a record of 7-8 to go along with 2 Saves in the big leagues.
Relief Pitchers
RHP Jacob Barnes
Barnes, is 29 years old and made his debut in 2016′ and became a solid bullpen arm for the Milwaukee Brewers. He struggled quite a bit in the 2019 season with the Brewers and Kansas City Royals. He has appeared in 182 games with a career ERA of 4.25 in 180 innings with 5 career Saves.
LHP Hoby Milner
Milner, is a 29-year old pitcher and made his debut in 2017 with the Philadelphia Phillies and held a 2.01 ERA across 31 innings in 37 games. He’s pitched a combined 11 innings in the 2018′ and 2019′ seasons and gave up 9 runs in those 11 innings.
RHP Neil Ramirez
Ramirez, a 30-year-old pitcher has been in the big leagues since 2014′ when he made his debut with the Chicago Cubs. He has also appeared with the Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, Cleveland Indians, and Toronto Blue Jays since making his debut with the Cubs. He has pitched in a total of 185 games with a career ERA of 4.46 in 179.2 innings pitched with 3 career Saves.
RHP Jose Rodriguez
Rodriguez, a 24-year old who appeared with the Angels last season making his debut was solid but had a couple of rough outings. He has the ability to pitch more than 1 inning out of the bullpen as he appeared in 9 games pitching 19.2 innings total. He gave up a total of 6 runs in those 19.2 innings, but gave up 5 long balls and walked 11.
Catchers
Jose Briceno
Briceno was acquired along with Shortstop Andrelton Simmons from the Atlanta Braves in 2015. He made his debut in 2018 appearing in 46 games and had a shoulder issue that led to him getting released in late-2019.
Other Catchers the Angels have invited to Spring Training include Jack Kruger, Keinner Pena, Franklin Torres, and Harrison Wenson.
Infielders
Arismendy Alcantara
Alcantara is a 28-year old who has had some experience in the big leagues coming with the Chicago Cubs (2014-2015), Oakland Athletics (2016), and Cincinnati Reds (2017). He didn’t get to play consistently, but should be a solid depth piece for the Angels.
Jose Rojas
Rojas, a 26-year old product of Anaheim who earned a lot of praise from Angels fans following his Spring last season and continued to impress by hitting 30 plus Doubles and Home Runs in Triple-A last season.
Elliot Soto
Soto, a 30-year old who hasn’t made his Major League debut yet, but had an impressive 2019. He impressed by hitting 22 Doubles and 10 Triples and Home Runs in Triple-A with the Colorado Rockies.
Outfielders
Jo Adell
Adell is a 20-year old who is the Angels top prospect is projected to take over Right Field at some point in 2020. If he has a big Spring he could start out the season in the big leagues.
Brennon Lund
Lund, a 25-year old turned in an impressive season in Triple-A and should provide the Angels with some minor league depth.
Brandon Marsh
Marsh, a 22-year old is the Angels 2nd top prospect and is a top 100 prospect. He figures to be in the big leagues in the next couple of years.
