Spring Training games are already in action for a few teams, but Angels’ fans will have to wait one more day to see their boys in red.
The first Angels’ spring training games start on Saturday, (2/22).

Injury Updates

Jose Soriano

Jonathan Mayo (MiLB insider for MLB and MLB pipeline) reveals Angels Top 10 Prospect SP Jose Soriano had Tommy John surgery around two weeks ago and will miss the 2020 season.

Justin Anderson

Rhett Bollinger (Angels beat reporter for MLB) describes that Justin Anderson suffered a Grade 2 oblique strain, and will be out for 4-6 weeks.

Ty Buttery

Fletcher checks in on Ty Buttery (who was shut down for 1-2 weeks), and believes that he is expected to be ready by opening day.

Newcomers/Returnees

JC Ramirez

There were rumblings of seeing RHP JC Ramirez at spring training, and according to Bollinger, Ramirez and the Angels agreed on a minor league deal. Ramirez had a solid year in 2017 for the Angels, pitching in 24 starts for a 4.15 ERA in 147.1 innings. However, Ramirez has barely pitched over the last two years.

After trying stem-cell therapy, and ultimately needing Tommy John surgery, he’s pitched in only seven games combined in 2018 and 2019.

Ryan Buchter

Bollinger announced that the Angels signed LHP Ryan Butcher to a minor league deal. Butcher has been a quality reliever, and in 64 games, maintained a 2.98 ERA and 0.9 bWAR for the Oakland Athletics in 2019.

Spring Training 2020 is just the beginning for the Angels. Yet, the anticipation for a playoff run is already in mid-season form.
