The Chargers have recently been searching to fill the void at quarterback coach now that it was confirmed Shane Steichen will officially continue as the Bolt’s offensive coordinator.
Steichen began the 2019 season as the quarterbacks’ coach until the team fired Ken Whisenhunt towards the end of the regular season.
The team then promoted Steichen, and apparently, they liked what the saw.
The new hire for the team’s quarterback coaching job is former Washington D.C. Defenders Head Coach, Pep Hamilton.
Hamilton may have a knack for mobile quarterbacks, after seeing positive results from Cardale Jones in the XFL.
This would come in Tyrod Taylor’s favor and would also favor new first-round draft pick, Justin Herbert. Herbert is faster than people would think, running roughly a 4.6 40-time in this years’ combine. Herbert also shocked many in the Rose Bowl by rushing for 3 touchdowns against a stout Wisconsin defense, and essentially carrying Oregon’s offense with his legs to win the game.
Hamilton was most recently in the XFL, but he does have a history in the NFL and NCAA. Hamilton served as offensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns in 2016, and before that he was the Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator from 2013-2015.
Pep also served as an assistant coach under Jim Harbaugh up until him accepting the D.C. Defenders head coaching job.
