Rajon Rondo fractured his thumb and will miss 6-8 weeks.

Rondo was averaging 7.1 PPG and 5 APG off the bench.

This is a huge loss in the big picture for the Lakers’ title chances as Rondo’s biggest attribute to this team is his leadership and championship experience.

The Lakers have had a problem with too many guards. Now they have Alex Caruso, Dion Waiters, KCP, and Danny Green. In the playoffs, teams usually go 9 deep. The Lakers need to find a 9 man rotation before the playoffs begin. Rondo would probably have been a part of that 9 man rotation but this injury sits him out until at least the second round of the playoffs.

LeBron James has been the lakers point guard for the entire season. Most times when LeBron is off the court, the Lakers lose the lead. Rondo was playing back up point guard with Alex Caruso. James will continue to be the point guard and Alex Caruso/Dion Waiters will play the backups.

The Lakers can still win the championship without Rajon Rondo. Alex Caruso has played well and Dion Waiters will shock everyone with his play. The Lakers’ biggest matchups are the Clippers and the Rockets. The Lakers have an advantage against both teams with Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

The Lakers will be fine until Rajon Rondo returns in the second round of the playoffs.
