The clocks ticking and time is winding down for the Los Angeles Kings. Decisions are about to be made that will affect the team’s future.
The 2020 NHL draft and free agency are quickly approaching so buckle up.
First the draft.
The talk seems to be the Kings have 3 front runners for the number 2 pick and those are Quinton Byfield, Tim Stutzle, Jamie Drysdale. The Kings may be looking at Lucas Raymond. Cole Perfetti, Marco Rossi, Jake Sanderson also.
The Kings have the option to stockpile this organization and come into the 2020-21 season fully loaded for years to come.

After that free agency.
The Kings have $17 million in cap space to upgrade at any position they like, even positions down in Ontario with the Reign. They could potentially get an impact player or two to step right into the lineup next season.
Players are going to be had this offseason and the Kings have to decide on what to do. The Kings have 2 UFA’s in Trevor Lewis and Nikolai Prokhorkin. Porkhorkin chose to leave the team, sign, and play in the KHL but the Kings still own his rights.
The Kings also have 2 RFA’s in Joakim Ryan and Ben Hutton.
The next few weeks are going to be crazy in the NHL, the Kings could be quite busy.
This is going to be a time for Luc Robitaille and Rob Blake to sit down and see what they need and where.
Choosing the “wrong” player at the draft or signing the “wrong” free agent could set this team back a couple of years.
However we do know this – if most, not all, of these prospects pan out like we all think then the Kings will be hoisting Lord Stanley’s cup in the not too distant future.
