Ever since the MLS is Back Tournament ended, it hasn’t been easy for LAFC.

The loss against Orlando in the quarterfinals seemed to be the start of the toughest period this club has faced in its young history. Losing games more constantly, losing the control of games, and even going games without a single goal, things that usually never happened last year. After earning a crucial win against Real Salt Lake in Utah, LAFC has an opportunity to make a statement this Sunday when they face off against Seattle.

Seattle has been the best team in the Western Conference so far and one of the best in the whole league. Since the restart of the MLS season, the Sounders have a record of 7-2-1, including two 3-0 wins over LAFC. But that momentum can change this weekend.

A win over Seattle can not only be a boost in the Western Conference standings but also in the team’s morale.

Against Real Salt Lake we saw a team more composed and more similar to what we had seen last year from this team. Great control of the game, defensively they were better not allowing the opponent to find dangerous chances and better consistency towards goal from their forwards.

As we all know, against Seattle you have to be more than just good, especially when you will face them without Diego Rossi, Brian Rodriguez Jose Cifuentes, and Diego Palacios. There is no doubt that the offensive part of the team will take the biggest hit, but this is where players like Bradley Wright-Phillips, Adrien Perez, Danny Musovski, and Bryce Duke need to step up. This is the moment many of the young players in the squad have been waiting for. To make a statement against one of the best teams in the league and show Bob Bradley that they can be important players for the team.

In terms of the team’s game plan, LAFC needs to play the most perfect game they’ve played this season. LAFC likes to press up high in order to recover the ball close to the goal, but this will only be possible if everyone is on the same page. The high press is only effective if your forwards and midfielders are all on running and pressing in a synchronized way, otherwise, you risk leaving holes in the middle from which Seattle can make you pay.

Concentration will also be key, especially from the defense. In the last game, two rookie mistakes from set-pieces caused LAFC two penalties from which they never recovered from.

A win over Seattle and rallying two consecutive wins for the first time this season can have a major impact on the team’s chances to make the playoffs and be a title contender.
