It was reported that AD agreed to a five-year, $190 million maximum contract to stay with the Purple & Gold until 2025.

This was expected as back in October, Davis opted out of his contract, but he aimed to resign with the Lakers for a longer period of time.

Even if this was as everyone predicted, this is still a huge moment for both the Lakers and for Davis to actually have the final agreement.

What makes this deal so significant for the Lakers

Long Term Commitment

This is stating the obvious. AD just gave the Lakers long term security as they have locked in their star big man for the next five years. This is a sigh of relief for the Purple & Gold as they know that they will have a star who could lead the franchise in the peak of his prime. Davis, who is now 27, helped the Lakers to their first NBA championship in 10 years as he finished the season with averages of 26.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in his first season in L.A. If he continues performing this way, and more importantly, if he stays healthy, Laker fans have a lot to look forward to.

Solid Core

Adding Lebron’s agreement to a 2-year extension until 2023, the Lakers have their dynamic duo, and their core to build around for the next few seasons. This gives the Lakers a clearer picture of how the team will look like in the future. They know that these two forwards will be the pillars that will lead the team. This is why they can easily build a core and supporting cast that compliments them perfectly.

This upcoming season, Rob Pelinka has done a stellar job landing such a great squad that compliments these two stars. The quest for the back to back titles look really promising, and the season hasn’t even begun.

Free Agent Destination

With both Lebron and AD expressing their loyalty to the Purple & Gold, this can easily entice other key free agents to sign with the Lakers as well. Knowing that L.A. will have two of the best players in the league for at least 3 more seasons is a great selling point to free agents who want to be on a winning team.

The Lakers are on the verge of creating another dynasty in their celebrated history – all that’s left to do is wait and see what they can accomplish.
