LeBron James in his 19th season can do something special as an individual this season. James is already inching closer to the all time scoring record and will hopefully surpass Karl Malone at some point this season. The most interesting stat for James this season is his 3pt percentage at .483 through 3 games.
James is shooting almost 10 threes a game and is making almost 5 threes a game. Shooting has never been LeBron’s main focus on scoring but this year is different.
The addition of Russell Westbrook is a tough adjustment for both James and Westbrook. Both players are at their best with the ball in their hands and being able to create opportunites for themselves and others. Westbrook’s game is fast paced and attacking in transition while LeBron likes a slower pace where he can dictate switches and attack the defense. LeBron’s jumpshot looks on balance and as smooth as ever. James highest 3pt percentage came with the Miami Heat in 2013 where he shot 40% on 3.3 attempts per basketball-reference.com.
LeBron James has one of the highest IQ’s in the NBA. James identified that spacing might be an issue for the Lakers and it looks like so far, he will be attempting more threes and trying to shoot 40% for the season. Westbrook and AD need space to operate and if James can continue this three point shooting, the Lakers will become unguardable.
LeBron’s 9.7 attempts from 3 is by far the highest in his career.
