The Los Angeles Lakers have been up and down all season, currently only 6th in the West which is well below the high standards they set for themselves at the start of the season.

In the offseason, the Lakers signed some big names like former MVP Russell Westbrook and 10-time all star Carmelo Anthony. Along with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, they are one of the favorites to win the title.

It hasn’t been smooth sailing and with all the covid protocols affecting the availability of the players, the Lakers were looking for an added boost. And along comes Isaiah Thomas, whom they signed to a 10-day contract. What can IT bring to this Lakers team?

Buckets

Isaiah Thomas is a certified bucket getter. Don’t let his size fool you because he can still definitely get points up on the board. In his one game in the G-League he scored 42 points. In his first game with the Lakers against the Timberwolves, he had a team-high 19 points.

He can definitely still score at a high level, and he is a deadly catch and shoot threat from the outside as well which will work perfectly with LeBron and Russell Westbrook.

Ball Handling & Playmaking

IT can also provide extra ball handling and playmaking abilities which is always useful on any team. LeBron and Westbrook can’t have the ball every second and with AD out for another month, they’ll be needing all the help they can get.

Veteran Leadership & Basketball IQ

The Lakers already have so many vets on their roster, but you can never have too many smart basketball players on a team and Isaiah Thomas is one of the smartest. He’s very crafty and knows how to always find advantages on the court. He can really help the bench and be another guiding light for the younger players like Austin Reaves and Talen Horton-Tucker.

IT might be on a 10-day contract right now, but he can definitely bring a lot to the Lakers team and he is 100% deserving of a spot on an NBA roster. Let’s see if he can produce for the Lakers and let’s see if the Lakers will keep him on the roster for the rest of the year.
