LAFC draws against a 10 man Timbers team
Another weekend of MLS play has come and gone and LAFC this weekend took on the 2021 MLS runner ups, the Portland Timbers. LAFC played its second game this season at Banc of California Stadium. LAFC would go down in the 18th to a stupendous Yimi Chara bicycle kick, making it back to back games scoring a bicycle kick goal. Even when the Timbers went down a man in the 62nd minute they parked the bus and tried to defend their lead. It wouldn’t be until the 93rd minute where LAFC would tie the game. A magnificent run by El Rayito, Bryan Rodriguez, allowed Fall to score a simple tap in. LAFC have looked solid in these past two games and got a good result against one of the league’s most difficult opponents.
Vela Raises Some Concerns
Carlos Vela would be substituted at halftime, LAFC stated it was done as a precautionary measure. Cherundolo said that “Carlos always feels something and like I said, just precautionary. I don’t think it’s anything serious. But our doctors are still assessing.” Vela had to watch from the bench as his team would have about thirty minutes playing with a man advantage. When healthy Vela is one of the most dominant and feared strikers of MLS. However that has yet to be seen in these past two seasons. Starting the season with a hattrick many fans thought that MVP Vela was back. However, fans will have to be patient and optimistic that this is nothing serious. Hopefully he will be good to go in Saturday’s matchup against Inter Miami. This also poses another issue for the Black and Gold, should Vela be given an extension. If he cannot stay healthy then why give him a big contract on the other end we know how capable he is and what he brings to this team. Certainly a dilemma that has the board in agony.
