The Los Angeles Lakers are in offseason mode after a season to forget only finishing 11th in the West and not even making the play-in games.

The Lakers have a lot to figure out this offseason to get ready for next season. They already fired coach Frank Vogel right after the last game in Denver. But now, where do they begin this offseason?

Establish the Centerpieces

Clearly LeBron and Westbrook didn’t go well. The Lakers need to figure out who of their stars they will keep and who they will build around. LeBron isn’t getting any younger. Anthony Davis still has trouble staying healthy. Russell Westbrook isn’t the player he used to be. So the number one question is who of those players will they keep, and who will they ship away?

Build Around Them

After they figure out who their stars will be, they need to build around them and find the necessary starters and role players to compliment those stars. The Lakers did not do a good job building a team that would work well together and they brought in players who all play very similar roles. They need to have flexibility to be able to play different styles and adapt to their opponents. And most importantly, they need to be able to play defense both individually and as a team, something they just couldn’t do.

The Lakers have a lot of work to do. Aside from getting the players, they need a new coach. Hopefully the Lakers can figure out a plan and bring the team together and move towards a bounce back season.
