LAFC Plays out to a Stalemate

LAFC and Philadelphia Show Why They are The Top Teams in Each Conference

The Black and Gold would welcome the top team from the Eastern Conference in a thrilling comeback draw. LAFC would go down twice by a goal but had the strength and skill to tie the game up each time. LAFC were down 1-0 in just under 10 minutes of gameplay. They then went on to dominate the first half but timely saves from Andre Blake. Stellar defending from the Union also helped them preserve the lead.  They would go to the half down a goal. Once again some issues defending allowed the Union to capitalize and take the lead. However as we have seen this season LAFC has been a much more dominant team in the second half.

Sure enough the Black and Gold continue their trend of being a second half team. Just 10 minutes into the second half Opoku was able to break free and tie the game at one a piece. However the joy would last for 10 minutes as once again the Union found a way to get a second goal on LAFC. With that goal it breaks LAFC’s streak of not conceding a goal in the second half. With another huge mountain to climb Los Angelinos kept scratching and clawing until they were able to tie the game. Newcomer Franco Escobar who had recently returned to action after suffering an injury, would play the hero. His goal in the 81st minute allowed LAFC to salvage a point. With this draw LAFC continues to be the best team in the whole league with 23 points.

LAFC Advances in the U.S Open Cup

Last night Tuesday, May 10th saw the Black and Gold take on the Portland Timbers in the U.S Open Cup for the round of 32. LAFC would get a 2-0 victory as they played a depleted Portland Timbers squad. With this victory they now advance to the round of 16 and will wait for an opponent. LAFC has a golden opportunity to add another piece of silverware to their short history. Goals from Chicho Arango and Mamadou Fall helped the club get the win. Another big time performance from Maxime Crepeau also helped preserve the shutout.

Looking Ahead

LAFC will travel to Colorado to take on the Rapids in a rematch of the first game of the season. LAFC would get a 3-0 victory with a Carlos Vela hat trick. After a stellar 2021 the Rapids have flown under the radar and currently sit in 9th place in the Western Conference with only 12 points. This might seem like an easy win for the club but LAFC cannot afford to take them lightly. This could be one of the easier wins as LAFC has a couple of gruesome matches after doing battle with the Rapids.
