Sounders Pay A Visit
It would be a beautiful and warm Friday night on July 29th, when the Sounders would visit LAFC. These matches always have a little extra kick especially after the 2019 Western Conference Final. Where the Black and Gold suffered a loss to the visiting team. So there is always some animosity between both teams. These two teams have always put on a spectacle and tonight would no different. LAFC took control of the first 10 minutes but had nothing to show. Then in the 14th minute disaster struck a well orchestrated counter attack saw Seattle get numbers up. They would overpower the LAFC defense and a slick ball into the penalty area saw Murillo put it in his own net.
14 minutes later it looked like the home tied the game. However, after a VAR review it was determined that Vela used his hand to bring the ball down and the goal was disallowed. LAFC was inching closer and closer to tying the game and they would in the 35th minute. A left footed rocket from Mahala Opoku would get passed an outstreched Stefan Frei. Tying things at one-a-piece! Following up in the 43rd minute would be the goal Vela has been deperatley searching for. Having not scored since May the Mexican was in need of a goal. A well placed cross found Vela in front of Frei and he would meg the keeper and make it a 2-1 game! This would be enough for the home team to go into the break up by a goal.
A Very Solid Second Half
Those two goals scored by the home team in the first half would be enough to propell them to victory. The second half was uncharacteristic for LAFC. As that is particulary when they play their best futbol. Im not saying this half wasn’t good, but they did defend the result, which is something they havent particulary well this season. However, agaisnt a tough opponent they showed that when its vcrunch time they are ready to go. LAFC seemed to have picked up on some pointers from Chiellini. Also the italian veteran went 73 minutes, the longest he’s gone this season. Gareth Bale would also get some action as he entered in the 63rd minute and, would make his home debut! With this victory LAFC continues ascending to the top and will hold the top spot with 48 points.
