A MLS Cup is a Must This Season

It is no secret that LAFC has been one of the best teams this season and have a strong chance at fighting for a MLS Cup. The Black and Gold currently sit in first place with 48 points, leading the Supporters Shield. They also boast a current four game win streak that started on July 8th. Within that streak two of those wins were back to back road victories. Showing that this team can win away from the Banc. Also they have added two immensely talented pieces to their roster. On the defensive end Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale on the attacking end. Both players with experience at the highest level of professional futbol. With an already loaded roster these moves are for winning now. Anything less than a MLS Cup will be considered a failure and questions will continue to be asked about why can’t LAFC win the big one. Holding this team together has been Steve Cherundolo, he has done an exceptional job in his first year. Leading the team to a 15-3-4 record so far this season. Let’s just hope they can finally deliver a title this year.

Looking Ahead

LAFC will make a quick trip up to Inglewood to take on Liga MX powerhouse Club America, for the Leagues Cup. This will be a ferocious matchup as there is some animosity between the two clubs. In the 2020 Concacaf Champions League these two teams met in a heated semifinal match. Where ultimately the Black and Gold would win by a score of 3-1. However, things would get chippy between the two teams. Leading to a couple of expulsions on both sides.  During the press conference America’s head coach, Fernando Ortiz, said he doesn’t keep up with the club. Also stating that he doesn’t even know what position they are in. Which continues the animosity between the clubs. Vela also responded to the comments by also saying the sayin that he too doesn’t even know what position they are in right now. While it is a friendly on paper, there will be nothing friendly on the pitch.

After their match against America, LAFC will head off to Utah where they will take on Real Salt Lake. Salt Lake has had a good season seeing themselves hold on tightly to fifth place. A visit to Rio Tinto Stadium is always difficult and LAFC will have to be on their toes for this one. LAFC have been on of the best road teams so the expectations for a good result are high. This match will help LAFC better prepare their newest stars as they get accustomed to life in MLS.
