LAFC Defeats Houston with a Brace from Carlos Vela
The Black and Gold welcomed a familiar face as they would go to battle with Houston Dynamo. These two would face off in Texas where the Dynamo walked out 2-1 winners. LAFC was looking to snap a two-game winless streak and this would be an opportune time to do so. While Houston was able to defeat LAFC just a few weeks ago another win for the Dynamo would be difficult. A wonderful ball from Vela left newcomer Denis Bouanga one-on-one with Dorsey where he would pull Bounga’s shirt and interfere with the play. Considering that thee foul occurred in the area a penalty was called. Carlos Vela stepped up to the spot and sent Clark the wrong way to open up the scoring. With the early lead it would have been nice to see LAFC keep their foot on the gas pedal. However, they got complacent and let Houston build some momentum. In the 24th minute, LAFC would pay the price as former winger Corey Baird tied the game at 1. On the final play of the half LAFC would take the lead. Vela would nab his brace as he scored once again from the spot.
Ryan Hollingshead is That Guy
Ryan Hollingshead has been a significant piece of this LAFC team. This season he has scored the most goals as a defender. He would continue growing his legend as he scored the third and final goal of this game. His goal would come early in the second half. His goal also provided the tranquility the club needed. He continues being one of the most reliable wingbacks and one of the best signings LAFC made this offseason.
With this win LAFC secured a spot in next seasons CONCACAF Champions League. It also assured that the Western Conference will have to run through Los Angeles. Meaning LAFC can stay put at home throughout the playoffs. Now the question will be if they can win the Supporters shield. If so then they would host the MLS Finals. Currently they are neck and neck with Philadelphia. With just two weeks there is still a lot to play for and LAFC will most definitely be challenged until the final game.
