Los Angeles Football Club announced the signing of midfielder Timothy Tillman on February 10. Tillman is LAFC’s eighth new player and has signed a contract through 2025 with an option for 2026.
The German will be added to the first team’s roster pending receipt of an International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
“Timothy is a dynamic, versatile midfielder with incredible experience in one of the top leagues in the world,” LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington said. “We are excited to welcome him to LA as we firmly believe he will contribute immediately and help in our ambitions to win more trophies.”
The 24-year-old joins LAFC after participating with German Bundesliga 2 club Greuther Fürth since 2019. Tillman made 85 appearances in all competitions for Greuther Fürth, assisting the team in earning promotion to Bundesliga 1 in 2021.
He appeared in 29 games in the top tier of German football in the 2021-22 season, notching one goal and registering two assists.
“I am very excited and looking forward to being a part of LAFC and Major League Soccer,” Tillman said. “I want to thank everyone at Greuther Fürth, especially Rachid Azzouzi, for helping me to develop and for giving me this opportunity at this stage of my career.”
A dual citizen of the United States and Germany, Tillman joined the Bayern Munich youth system in 2015. He made 61 appearances across all competitions for the U17 and U19 sides and scored 15, and registered 21 assists.
In the summer of 2017, Tillman joined Bayern Munich II, making his Bundesliga 2 debut in a 5-0 victory against FC Ingolstadt 04 II. He was part of the FC Bayern first team that won the German Super Cup after beating rivals Borussia Dortmund in penalties.
FC Nürnberg borrowed Tillman from FC Bayern in the 2018/19 season, where he made 13 appearances in all competitions, including six Bundesliga 1 appearances.
In January 2020, he moved to Greuther Fürth, where he rejoined a club that he played with at the youth level from 2009-2015.
Tillman played international level and represented Germany from the U16 through the U19 ranks. He received his first call-up to the Germany U16 squad during a 2-0 win against Italy. He also helped Germany win the 2016 FIFA Algrave Tournament at the U-17 level.
Tillman has made 20 appearances and scored three goals for Germany’s U16 to U19 ranks.
