LAFC Lose to Alajuelense but Advance in CCL
LAFC would welcome Alajuelense to BMO Stadium for the second leg of their Concacaf Champions League matchup. Los Angelinos entered with a comfortable 3-0 lead and on the brink of moving on to the next round. However, LAFC decided to give the fans a nice scare. As, Alajuelense was up 2-0 in the 80th minute. Needing one more goal to tie the game on aggregate and send it to extra time. LAFC would be bailed out by their superstar Carlos Vela. Scoring a goal in the 81st minute and practically sealing the game for LAFC. Los Angelinos seem that they are putting a high focus on CCL. They will have a tough task as they will face off against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the next round of CCL. With this loss LAFC would kick start a week of unpleasant results.
A Visit to Lumen Field
Trips to Seattle have not fared too kindly for the Black and Gold. Apart from their win in their first ever MLS game they have a poor record in Seattle. They have a 1-4-3 record when visiting Lumen Field and have only managed to score five goals in their 8 games ins Seattle. This would be a hard hitting battle as in the end the two teams would have a total of eight yellow cards shown. With this draw LAFC maintains it’s 2nd place in the standings. With 7 points they trail league leaders St. Louis by four points, although they are missing a game. LAFC looked a little stagnant in their approach against the Sounders. Bouanga had a quiet game and wasn’t as explosive as we have seen this season. However, a bright side was the defense. They were really solid and held their ground, forcing Seattle to try and find alternative ways to get to shots on goal. Speaking of goal, goalkeeper John McCarthy has done a phenomenal job stepping up for the injured Maxime Crepeau. Showing off that they have a dependable roster. While this wasn’t the optimal game LAFC are sure to rebound quickly.
Upcoming Challenges for LAFC
Los Angelinos will return to BMO stadium where they will welcome FC Dallas. Dallas has had a promising start to the season and are currently 2-1-1 and have seven points. They sit in fourth place just under Seattle. With this match against Dallas it will be the return of another LAFC that departed over the transfer window. will have these next two games to figure out if they choose to focus on CCL or the MLS season. As they won’t play in CCL until April 5th. With the hectic schedule approaching LAFC would be wise to use these next two games to figure out a steady lineup. The Black and Gold have a daunting season ahead of them and they are only getting started. This team has high aspirations and a trophy will be required from them this year!
