Los Angeles Football Club is the only team unbeaten in MLS in 2023. The 2022 MLS champions won five games and drew three; it hasn’t been an easy path for the Black and Gold.
It looks like no team can beat LAFC so far, and they remain unstoppable. Attacking-wise, LAFC is dangerous, as Denis Bouanga has been the best form player on the team. He has scored seven goals in the last eight games, while Vela is back in the top flight.
Suppose a Vela or Bouanage gets injured or needs a rest. Manager Steve Cherundolo can bring Kwadwo Opoku or Stipe Biuk and put in a performance.
Meanwhile, in midfield, the players are performing well. Cherundolo can rotate players like start or rest players Jose Cifuentes, Ilie Sánchez, Timothy Tillman, and Kellyn Acosta.
Defensively, LAFC has the best defense in the Western Conference, as they conceded six goals. Giorgio Chiellini, Jesús Murillo, and Aaron Long have been solid in the last eight games.
A squad like LAFC shows they beat anyone in their path. However, the MLS can sometimes be unpredictable as other teams can cause problems against LAFC, like Nashville SC last Saturday.
RECAP
Last Saturday, LAFC faced Nashville SC and ended with a 1-1 draw at GEODIS Park. Nashville is the third team that gave LAFC a tough time this season. Hany Hukhtar gave Nashville the lead. Then spent the majority of the first half looking for the side most likely to find the match’s second goal.
In the second half, LAFC had more chances to win the match after Bouanga scored from the top of the box into the Nashville net to make it 1-1.
The last occasion these two met was when Nashville defeated LAFC 1-0 in the MLS in October of 2022—the last MLS league game of 2022 before the playoffs.
Can LAFC remain unbeaten?
For LAFC to maintain the unbeaten streak will be extremely difficult for them. LAFC has to travel to Philadelphia, Saint Louis, Dallas, and San Jose and get a win. Philadelphia Union will never forget last year’s final, while St. Louis, San Jose Earthquakes, and FC Dallas are currently in form.
Traveling to Seattle and Colorado is a difficult place for LAFC to win and get the result. Meanwhile, playing at the BMO Stadium, LAFC has been superior, beating any MLS side in their ground. Although LAFC is good at home, other MLS teams can cause problems by having a game plan.
So far, LAFC’s away record is decent, as they scored four goals and conceded three goals. LAFC continues to play away as the Black and Gold face San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, May 6th, and play against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, May 13th.
