In one of the most highly anticipated matches of the season, El Trafico would make its way to the historic Rose Bowl, where we had two slumping LA teams fighting for city supremacy.

LAFC Suffers a Loss Against the LA Galaxy

LAFC entered on a two-game losing streak; meanwhile, the Galaxy were winless in their previous four. LAFC has struggled as of late, and their struggles would continue as they would go on to lose 2-1 in this historic matchup. Goals from Tyler Boyd and Riqui Puig saw the Galaxy revive what was a dead season. LAFC continues its downhill trend and now finds themselves in third place in the standings. This loss is more infuriating, knowing that LAFC was the more dominant team but once again could not capitalize.

LAFC is now 6-9-5 in all-time meetings against the Galaxy, and the struggle of playing them away from BMO stadium continues.

What Went Wrong For LAFC

For whatever reason, LAFC just has issues when it comes to playing their rivals, the Galaxy, away from home. Sure, they got their first-ever win at Dignity Health Sports Park this season but have lost the seven other times they’ve played there. Last night was no different, as they just could not play at the level they are expected. Sure, LAFC have played an average of 3 games per week these past months. However, when it comes to a derby match you win at all costs.

A key issue last night was in the midfield, as they were specifically overpowered by a brilliant Riqui Puig, that dominated and took control of the game from his position. Up top was not on point as well as both Vela and Bouanga had off nights. A rare sight for the Gabonese star and something we are becoming accustomed to from the Mexican international. Bouanga missed a few clear chances that would have shifted this game in favor of LAFC. Meanwhile, Carlos had a quiet game, and his slump continues.

Moving Forward

All LAFC can do is shake off this defeat and look ahead to what is next. With three more regular season matches left for July before a weird pause for the Leagues Cup. The Black and Gold have an opportunity of continuing to climb up the standings and stay in a favorable position come playoffs.

LAFC has to shake off the defeat of CCL and refocus on the task at hand, fighting for the MLS Cup.

These next few games will be critical for the Angelinos and could possibly make or break their entire season.
