After defeating their rivals, the LA Galaxy, on the 4th of July spectacle, LAFC made a shocking announcement, announcing that Mahala Opoku was traded to the CF Montreal for GAM.
This transaction would net LAFC a total of 1,750,000 GAM

LAFC Transfer Mahala Opoku

While it was a sad day, it was a move that would eventually come as Montreal tried acquiring the Ghanaian during the last offseason, with LAFC holding off due to having to compete in CCL. Opoku tallied 74 total games and scored 13 goals during his time with the Black and Gold.

Lifting an MLS Cup and Supporters’ shield along the way, Mahala’s only fault was that he lacked a killer instinct in front of goal. He missed a few clear and concise opportunities when he was pursuing a goal.

Overall this was a productive trade for both sides as LAFC opened up space for another top star. Meanwhile, Opoku gets more playing time and can solidify himself as a top star in this league.

Cifu With One Foot Out the Door

Another quality name is on the verge of leaving Black and Gold. Jose ‘Cifu’ Cifuentes has almost everything wrapped up to join Rangers F.C. of the Scottish Premiership! Cifu has, unfortunately, now become a luxury for the Angelinos as he has not featured as a starter this much this season, with the likes of Tillman and Bogusz being regular starters. Once again, this is another quality star that LAFC can afford to lose.

Along with Cifu also wanting to make a move to European football, this move benefits both parties. The Ecuadorian international tallies 117 appearances all time with 15 goals and 17 assists since joining in 2020. Cifu was critical down the stretch and also played a huge role in helping the club win their first-ever MLS Cup.

This move opens up yet another roster spot and the possibility of signing another top star to help close out the season.
