Timothy Tillman and Mateusz Bogusz’s epic goal was enough for Los Angeles Football Club to get the three points at BMO Stadium.

LAFC beat Seattle Sounders 2-1 and it should have been more as Denis Bouanga should have scored a hat-trick but missed loads of chances. Although the Black and Gold were dominated, the Seattle Sounders had chances to lead in the first two minutes but Hugo Lloris denied them with his first save.

“I think we could not start in a better way,” Lloris said. “The most important thing was to get the three points. We’re still working on our fitness level, and we suffered the last 20 minutes, but with the help of the crowd, we were able to win.”

Not only did Llrois do well in his debut but LAFC became the first club in MLS history to win seven straight season openers having emerged victorious in every opening game since joining the league in 2018.

Tillman put LAFC ahead right before half-time with a mid-blast shot of a cross from Omar Ocampos, the Mexican left-back signed in January from Santos Laguna as a possible replacement for Degio Palacios.

In the second half Bogusz, who scored three goals last year, scored a beautiful curling strike into the top-half corner.

Everything was going well for LAFC until the 72nd minute Seattle Sounders were awarded a penalty. The same mistakes as last year LAFC still have their defensive issues and individually making mistakes.

Aaron Long made contact with Jordan Morris inside the box and received a yellow card. Seattle Sounders record signing Pedro de la Vega from Lanús in his native Argentina scored his first goal.

Overall LAFC got the win but since it’s the first game of the season the fitness levels are low and performances need to improve. LAFC still needs a center-back similar to Giorgio Chiellini or a young top-quality defender.

LAFC started the season with their main player Carlos Vela, the franchise’s first player and the 2018 MLS MVP. Vela remains at home unsigned and LAFC is finding a way to sign him.

LAFC will now travel to Utah and face Real Salt Lake on March 3rd.
