Less than two months after signing his MLS Next Pro contract with LAFC2, LAFC announced today they have signed Luis Muller through 2024, with options through 2025 and 2026.
Muller will be taking over an International Roster Slot.

Instant Impact

Muller started his LAFC2 career with a bang, scoring two goals and giving one assist against Minnesota United FC 2 on March 11. So far in the season, Muller has registered four goals and two assists in five matches played with LAFC2. His impressive form earned him a few minutes in his MLS debut on April 20 against the NY Red Bulls at BMO Stadium.

After spending his youth career with German clubs FC Energie Cottbus, FC Köln, and FC Viktoria Köln, Muller joined the California Baptist Lancers in August of 2020, where he registered 26 goals and 19 assists in 69 games.

Joining a Competitive Group

Muller will compete for minutes against a wide range of players up top, such as Denis Bouanga, Mateusz Bogusz, Tomas Angel, Nathan Ordaz, Cristian Olivera, David Martinez, Kei Kamara, and Oliver Giroud, who is supposed to join in the summer.

While he is now signed with the first team, we could still see him in action with LAFC2.

Plans for the Near Future

While there are a lot of names that can be used up front, there is still a feeling that the team still needs depth. With the transfer window now closed, LAFC will do with this squad at least until the summer. Giroud is supposed to join the club in the summer and will most likely take over that last Designated Player spot.

This week we learned that midfielder Eduard Atuesta is currently registered as a DP but can be converted down with TAM money.

There have been a lot of rumors and questions about whether LAFC will be going after a big name during the summer that can take over that DP spot.
