LA Kings’ Vojtech Cihar Wins World Juniors MVP Award
Czechia star and Los Angeles Kings prospect Vojtech Cihar has won the Murray Costello World Junior Championship MVP award for his play during the World Junior tournament.
He was nothing short of amazing and gave Kings fans a glimpse of what was to come in the near future.
Cihar helped Czechia win a silver medal against Finland and was superb throughout the tournament. He was also named to the all-tournament team after posting four goals and eight assists for 12 points in only seven games.
His offensive contributions throughout the tournament made him stand out and further gave him confidence heading into a new challenge. What is the new challenge?
Cihar, a 6-foot-0 and 175-pound left winger, will join the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League for the second half of the season after spending time with the Karlovy Vary HC, to which he produced four goals and four assists for eight points in 27 games.
There is no telling when Cihar could join the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League. The Kings’ 2025 second-round pick will play out the rest of the 2025-26 season with Kelowna, and a big showing could spell a promotion for him next season.
In other Kings news, prospects Liam Greentree and goaltender Carter George also won medals. They won bronze for Team Canada at the World Juniors and continue to polish their young careers with achievements. This is only the beginning of a storied career for both of them as they advance in roles that are certainly worth watching.
Other Kings’ prospects who participated in the tournament include Finland goaltender Petteri Rimpinen, who was selected as the tournament’s best goaltender. Forward Breendan McMorrow played a depth role while playing for Team USA, and forward Jan Chovan also played a bottom-six role for Team Finland in his second tournament.
The Kings look to continue their winning ways after two straight victories. They will host the rival San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, but will travel for a short two-game road trip.
Those games will be against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night, followed by a big game against the rival Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.
Los Angeles currently holds the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference with an 18-14-9 record, placing them fourth in the Pacific Division.
