Last week’s NBA trade deadline week, the LA Clippers began talking to Cleveland about trading James Harden on Monday night, and the following day, the team traded him to Cleveland for Darius Garland.

The Clippers also got a second-round pick from the Cavs as part of the deal.

Lawrence Frank said following the trade with Cleveland:

“We are trying to get younger while continuing to win, and Darius allows us to do both.”

Garland is a 2-time All-Star who just turned 26.

He’s a highly skilled point guard who will definitely fit right in with the Clippers.

Garland has played in 26 games for the Cavaliers this season, averaging 18.0 points, 6.9 assists, and 2.4 rebounds in 30.5 minutes. In 7 seasons with Cleveland in the NBA, Garland has averaged 18.8 points, 6.7 assists, and 2.6 rebounds while shooting 38.6% from beyond the arc.

The Clippers are getting a player with incredible talent who will be part of the franchise’s next star once Kawhi Leonard retires.

Though Clippers fans will miss fan-favorite James Harden, the Clippers organization needs to look not only to the present but also to the future, where the team needs young talent and players who fit the system.
