NFL free agency opened this past Monday, and like last year, the Los Angeles Chargers stayed quiet.

They did, however, proceed to sign some key free agents on their list.

The LA Chargers re-signed Khalil Mack and Teair Tart. The Bolts also added tight end Charlie Kolar and guard Cole Strange.

In addition, the Chargers brought back offensive lineman Trevor Penning.

General manager Joe Horitz typically doesn’t operate atop the free-agent market.

Still, there was a baseline expectation that he would do something somewhat significant after the team fell short in the postseason this past season.

Joe Hortiz made sure to address the Chargers’ needs to improve the roster for next season.

So far, though, they haven’t done so. Even though free agency just started, the Chargers front office feels good about where they’re heading as an organization to take the next steps toward reaching the Super Bowl, under the leadership of Jim Harbaugh.

Overall, the Chargers’ recent free-agent signings and the guys they brought back really show they are still going to be competitive in 2026 and compete for a playoff spot.
